I have recently been reading a lot of reviews out of old and new PC Gamer magazine, and have become fascinated with the written reviews. I guess it came to me the other day when I told myself that I wanted to write my own personal views on the video games I play. I never thought I would be interested in this process, but maybe I’m just getting older.

I have been playing City of Heroes lately, after going back time and time again to playing WoW. It feels refreshing to play and MMO that has its own good ideas. Maybe its the new interface, or the way enhancements(spell buffs) work, but man is it fun. The feeling of being a super hero has always been a fantasy of mine. I mean who doesn’t want to fly? I haven’t delved to far into the genre of super heroes, but I have some favorites.

After waking up in bed the other morning, I was flipping through the channels to find that Hellboy was on. I laid there and contemplated to myself how great of a movie I thought it was. I still am a little embarrassed to admit it, only because so many people have bagged on it. Hellboy himself is just such a bad ass. He carries a big fucking gun and never dies. He is also a demon which I don’t exactly know the hole back story to, since I never read the comic. But I never felt once not entertained with the film.

Being a Hero in the City of Heroes can feel like being part of the Alliance side in WoW at times, but I don’t really have a villains blood. Yeah I can play on Horde side in WoW, but Alliance is just stupid in my opinion. So as a hero does, I protect and serve as a Sheriff should do. My name in the game is Sheriff Dugger, who has a hole back story that I could tell you about later. I just got done with “double xp weekend” and got my blaster up to level 20. At level 20 you open up a new costume slot, which is a good thing. Looking at your character in the same costume can be boring after a while. As fun as the game is, it does have its downsides.

I was reading another blog earlier, and I have to agree with one point he made. The new and old MMO games just don’t have the fun factor like WoW does. I feel like a complete ass hole just saying that. Like I said I have been in and out of WoW for a long time. I always leave for some small reason, and think I can have a better experience in another game. For example, I left WoW for Dark Age of Camelot which I played for 5 years when I was a teenager. After my DAOC times ran short, I went back to WoW. I then quit again once Warhammer Online came out, only to find that Warhammer needs too much work for me to play. So i went back to WoW AGAIN and ended up quitting for Warhammer AGAIN only to find that after months of waiting for WAR to get better, it still hadn’t. So I started playing COH(City of Heroes) to stray away from my usual WoW resort, and now here I am.

I like COH…I like it a lot but it still doesnt have the fun factor of WoW. I wanna run instances with friends, I wanna PvP (even though they have a shitty PvP system) with my friends. I wanna go back to the fun does of an MMO and have friends in town that play as well. Maybe I’ll never have my good old DAOC days back again, but for now the City of Heroes awaits…..
